International Baccalaureate (IB)

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end, the organization works with schools, governments, and international organizations to develop challenging international education programs and rigorous assessments. These programs encourage students worldwide to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

Primary Years Program (PYP)

IB (International Baccalaureate) is a non-profit program founded in 1968, currently available in over 150 countries. The curriculum aims to help students develop and excel as people and learners. It is designed to inspire a genuine love for learning which is vital for their academic growth and progress. Students from the age of three to nineteen can choose an International Baccalaureate education. The Primary Years Program is offered at NLIS to students aged from 6 to 12 (PYP-1 to PYP-6)

Middle Years Program (MYP)

The Middle Years Program is designed for students aged 11 to 16. The program is student centered and uses practical approaches to teaching to support students to develop healthy relationships, tackle personal change and make ethical choices. The program encourages students to become critical, creative and reflective individuals. It builds upon the skills, attitudes and knowledge developed in the IB PYP. The program has a holistic approach, encouraging students to excel academically and putting a spotlight on personal growth.

Diploma Programme (DP)

Norlights International School Oslo is an IB World School for the Diploma Programme. IB World Schools share a common philosophy- a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education- that we believe is important for our students.
NLIS authorized by the IB Organization offer any of its three academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme (DP).

Our mission is to provide high-quality education, bringing up inquisitive, knowledgeable, productive learners motivated to succeed. In addition, we aim to nurture internationally-minded compassionate young people with intercultural understanding and respect who strive to create a better and more peaceful world.

The objective is to provide the students with the academic and social skills to help them reach their full potential, enabling them to be open-minded individuals who can think critically and are encouraged to challenge norms and tackle change.

«I like when students from different countries get together to share their learning and perspectives. I love NLIS because it has a very positive atmosphere around it. A good learning for me to be knowledgeable and be able to take risks for learning new things.»
